Feeling Frustrated and Stressed?
Welcome to the world of the business owner.
I remember when I first started in my own business and the unrealistic thoughts that filled my world. Even if I made half the sales I thought were possible, I’d make so much more than working for someone else.
But it didn’t work out like that.
Being a business owner turned out differently than I’d thought.
AND by the time I worked that out I’d sunk a reasonable amount of money into the business.
What no one told me was that being a business owner meant I had to think about the whole business AND make sure all the numbers worked!
The other thing about being a business owner is that there’s NEVER a spare moment.
So if you feel like this? Take the magic pill,
Do a One Minute Business Check Up on your business and see why things aren’t going how you thought they should (and you don’t even need a glass of water to take this pill!).

From CR: There are so many reports of a housing bubble in China, I asked a friend living in China for his thoughts ... this is his view:From Michael Kleist in Shanghai:News of soaring housing prices in China, which are now hovering around late 2007 peaks, naturally invites talk of bubbles and excessive speculation. More so, since the 2007 highs led to a humbling drop in prices for homeowners and investors in 2008. Are things heading that way again in 2010? Not necessarily.Let’s start with the news in the papers. See the WSJ today: China Property Prices SurgeIt’s clear the housing market in China has been hot, topped by February’s 10.7% YoY increase in prices. In fact, housing prices have been rising for 9 straight months YoY in China, which coincides to some degree with the government’s massive stimulus package that took effect first quarter 2009. Certainly there is some speculation inside these numbers, as there would be in any hot property market. The government has shown enough concern on this point, and overheating in general, to tell banks last month to curtail lending and increase reserve rations. But the bigger reason for rising home prices in China may simply be ...

From the San Francisco Gate: California's bond rating is the country's lowest. The state faces near unprecedented unemployment and underemployment. State government and most counties face deficits for the foreseeable future. The solution to this predicament, some Sacramento politicians believe, is more taxes. The underlying assumption of such an approach is that taxes don't have much impact on economic performance and that tax competition among states is irrelevant. But both matter a great deal and lie at the heart of why the state's economy is struggling. The first faulty premise pervading Sacramento is that taxes don't influence economic decisions and performance. Volumes of research show how taxes change behavior and how they affect the economy. When we tax something, we get less of it. In other words, much of the foundation for a prosperous society, like work effort, savings, investment and entrepreneurship, is influenced by taxes. Unfortunately, California has gone out of its way to tax these very things. California imposes America's fourth-highest top marginal personal income tax rate, behind only Hawaii, Oregon and New Jersey. Progressivity of our personal income taxes ...

The Chuck Cowdery Blog

It has been about 16 months since I've made a "what's my bottle worth" post. It's a question I get all the time.

“How much?” is a tricky subject with old liquor bottles because it is illegal to sell alcohol without a license. There are collectors, they buy and sell, and I haven’t heard of anyone being prosecuted for it, but because it is illegal most transaction are on the down low.

A precondition for assessing the resale value of anything is a sufficiently active secondary market for the type of object being assessed. An assessor studies recent sales to predict future prices. The secondary market for American whiskey is too small, fragmented and secretive to do that.

The only easily-accessible market for this sort of thing is the auction web site eBay.

The rarest and most valuable bottles are the oldest ones. Some post-Prohibition bottles have value, usually because the distillery where they were made is out-of-business. Prohibition-era medicinal whiskey is surprisingly common. Rarest of all are intact (i.e., full and well-sealed) pre-Prohibition bottlings.

The absolute high end on eBay is maybe $1,000, and that is only if you get lucky and a couple of people really want what you're selling.

There is a subset of this market that specializes in limited editions by particular producers, Jack Daniel's and Maker's Mark primarily. While most items sell in the sub-$500 range, there is no saying what the top end is. Naturally, big money transactions are the most secretive of all.

Among the people who buy old whiskey, many do it to drink the stuff. This tends not to be true of the Daniel's and Maker's Mark collectors.

I hope this is helpful.

Pedro Macufa Donça was born in the district of Boane, Maputo Province, in southern Mozambique. He is 42 years old, married, and has of two children, 22 and 20 years of age. The children are no longer in school. He finished 12th grade but didn't continue his studies because he was summoned to complete obligatory military service. He lives in his own house and isn't financially responsible for anyone else.
He left Tete for Maputo because he was transfered during his military service in 1974. He ended up settling down in Maputo. He retired from the Defense Ministry more than 10 years ago and receives a pension of 7000 meticals a month, which he uses for household expenses and some savings.
He's never received loans from other banks. He learned about Hvuluku through a friend who is also a Hvuluku client at the Bela Vista branch. This is his fourth loan, in the amount of 15,000 meticals, which he intends to use once to purchase construction materials (sheet metal, cement, sand, joists, etc.) and continue building his work. The earlier loans were in the amounts of 12,000, 15,000, and 15,000 meticals, all for the same purpose.
In the future, he'd like to request more loans to build a bakery and tea room, as a way to better his family's life.

Blogs

Remember the television show, "Seinfeld?" Like you, we laughed ourselves silly over the antics of the show. It was funny and full of uproarious one-liners. When Jerry Seinfeld decided to promote the idea of a new show called "The Marriage Ref," he and everyone else surely imagined that it would be a hit. Why would anyone expect anything different?

But now, reality is up against the truth. And the simple truth is this - marital problems aren't funny to the couples going through the trials and tribulations of the various marital challenges all marriages go through. Poking fun at married couples in a public way it seems is not very funny, and not very helpful in either the short or long term.

The first arrow-in-the-heart of the show is this - you do not learn about successful marriage by highlighting marital failure. We have studied marriage on six continents of the world for some 27 years and we know this - if you want to understand success, study success. If you want to understand failure, study failure. Oh, if the producers and directors of "The Marriage Ref" had only known these evident and researchable truths. Inviting Madonna (how many times has she been divorced??) or others who have failed at marriage act as a "referee" in a marriage dispute is analogous to trying to learn about how to have a successful marriage by studying failed marriages.

The second point we'd like to make is this - there are many credible researchers, effective marriage and relationship scholars, and great marriage counselors out there. Any of these experts could do an amazing job of diagnosing and assisting these couples with resolving their issues while being witty in the process.

Our point here is that couples having to deal with the stress and challenges that confront all marriages need help from credible experts who have studied successful marriage and from well-trained, successful, and experienced marriage counselors. Going on a television show where you are exposing very private issues about your marriage while being judged by others who are not necessarily competent, or who may or may not have your best interests in mind (i.e., they use your marriage for a laugh line!), is not the best way to fix or grow your marriage.

The scathing critical reviews of "The Marriage Rep" have used words like "painfully bad," "terrible," "unfunny," "patronizing," "ugly," and "heinous." Is it any wonder given the premise of the show? Let's hope the public has not been misled into thinking that the model they bring to the airways has any credibility or usefulness. And the truth is, the show isn't even funny!

Authors of the best-selling book and multiple-award winning book Building a Love that Lasts: The Seven Surprising Secrets of Successful Marriage (Jossey-Bass/Wiley 2010) Available wherever books are sold. Excerpts were used in this blog.
Today I'm going to share with you the third most important thing to look for, and that is, experience. When choosing a work at home internet marketing business, you want to make sure that the opportunity has a track record of success. You should make sure that there are everyday people, like you and me that are making a living doing exactly what you would be doing. Many times there are business opportunities where only a few of the so-called "Top Dogs" are making any money. You want to make sure the business you choose is duplicable, so that even if you're brand new, you can plug in to a system that has a track record of success. You also want to make sure that the people who own the business, have years of experience in both business, and internet marketing. You see, if the leaders who are leading you, don't have the experience themselves, than how could they coach you to becoming successful? Well, they can't. So it's imperative that you're involved with an opportunity that has years of experience, both in the business itself, and through the people who are leading the company. This is another aspect that will give you leverage in your business. Instead of you having to figure everything out from scratch, you can simply leverage the collective experience of top entrepreneurs, that have done all the research and testing for you. Let's review what we've covered so far in this video series: 1. The number one thing you're looking for in a successful home based business is that there is a great system in place that does the sorting, explaining, and selling for you. 2. Secondly, you're looking for an opportunity that has cutting edge training available to you at any time. 3. And third, which is what we covered today, you're looking for an opportunity with a company that has a track record of success. Stay tuned for my next video where I'll share with you the fourth most important thing to look for in a work at home internet marketing business. In the meantime, to check out the business I endorse, that has a great system, training, and an amazing track record of success, go to www.enjoysuccessfromhome.com right now. Part 9 of 10. Formatted for the Internet and Mobile Platforms. This sci-fi drama centers on a pilot-less rocket ship that explodes near the sun, setting into motion a gigantic meteor shower that heads straight for earth. It causes heat waves, tidal waves, earthquakes and sparks many an emotional disaster as well. Excellent cinematography for this foreign classic that was dubbed into english.

For portable radio operation, I like End-Fed Half-Wavelength Antennas (EFHWA, pronounced "EF-WAH"). This type of antenna is similar to the common half-wavelength dipole, but with one significant advantage. A dipole has its feedpoint (where it connects to the radio) in the middle of the antenna, but an EFHWA's feedpoint is at one end. This makes it very convenient to throw the antenna up in a tree and connect the bottom of it to your radio. Here are instructions for making a multiband end-fed half-wavelength antenna that works on 17, 20, 30, and 40-meter bands.

MyDD

Kos had a headline last week that said, “The tide is turning.” I wouldn’t go quite that far – the generic ballot isn’t Charlie Cook bad, but it’s still not good – but it is true that Democrats have seen a spate of good news lately, both in terms of polls and policy, and I think more is on the way.

Part of the good news is that the DCCC is going on offense, as Jonathan highlighted this morning. We will lose House seats, but the best way to blunt those losses is to flip some red seats, and the GOP has targeted nine incumbents and four open seats.

They do so with certain polls at their back. Two of the last three generic ballot polls give Democrats a lead, and the third is from Rasmussen. Ipsos/McClatchy’s ten point lead is probably an outlier as well, but even ignoring both Rasmussen and Ipsos, we still have a 47-44 Gallup lead. It’s a smaller lead than Dems usually need to do well, but I’ll take it.

In Senate politics, Rep. Kendrick Meek is running surprisingly strong in Florida. According to PPP, likely Repub nominee Marco Rubio is ahead of Meek by just 44-39, “and because there are a lot more undecided Democrats (20%) than Republicans (12%) the race is realistically probably even closer than 5 points.” Perhaps even more importantly, “Meek leads 41-34 with independents, a very rare outcome in this political climate when independents are usually leaning strongly toward the GOP.” In New York, Kirstin Gillibrand’s favorable keep on climbing. Per Rasmussen, that somewhat conservative firm, her approval spread is now 50-37. In November, it was 40-37, and in September, it was a net negative of 39-42.

Certain Governors’ races are looking good, too, including three pick-up opportunities. First, in Nevada, a poll out Sunday is the sixth in a row to show Democrat Rory Reid leading Jim Gibbons – Rasmussen has him up 44-36 despite his father’s down-ticket drag. In Georgia, a state that has voted Democrat for President just three times in 48 years, the likely Democratic gubernatorial candidate is leading all potential opponents. Another PPP poll shows former Gov. Roy Barnes beating Republicans 40-39, 41-36, and 43-38. Another red state where I look forward to the Governor’s race is my native Texas, where our best candidate since Ann Richards goes against an incumbent with a 32% approval rating. And though it would be a hold rather than a pick-up, it looks like Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper has regained the lead in Colorado.

These encouraging numbers come in the midst of a bad political environment for Democrats, and it’s an environment that’s only likely to get better. Democratic candidates fare poorly when their party fares poorly, and the party may be about to run into some welcome successes: The Census Bureau’s coming hiring blitz will knock half a point off the unemployment rate, yesterday’s bipartisan White House meeting suggests the Kerry-Graham clean energy bill is inching towards passage, and health care reform is in the endgame. February groundhogs are not October pumpkins, so it makes sense that February’s political messes won’t be October’s messes.

But not Lupe Fiasco. When he climbed the peak, he did it with some lessons learned from none other than Daniel-san.

"I guess it was one of them 'Karate Kid' moments, you know? I did martial arts for, like, 20 years. My father was a Grand Master for, like, 40 years before he passed. It's just one of those lessons that we were taught," he laughed at the New York premiere of "Summit on the Summit: Kilimanjaro." "We used to run in the snow barefoot, jump over cars, hang out of trees and do all types of crazy stuff, and that was just part of the training, to understand that it's you versus yourself. The terrain is always going to exist, it's always going to be there, and it's whether you are capable enough to go through it. ... Just some little mysticism right there, a little bit of that karate magic to keep the mind going."

And Fiasco — who, along with Kenna, Santigold, Jessica Biel, Emile Hirsch and a team of scientists, United Nations ambassadors and experienced mountain guides, took on Kilimanjaro to raise awareness about the global clean-water crisis — most certainly made it to the peak, braving freezing temperatures, dizzying heights and crippling altitude sickness. Of course, while all of those things are what made the trip difficult for him, the toughest hurdle to overcome was mental.

"It probably is the most difficult thing I've ever done. It wasn't the altitude sickness; it was more so the battle of myself," he explained. "Battling, getting the variables right, working the math out about how much water you're going to drink, how hard you're going to push yourself, how mad you're going to get, how much you're going to think about going home."

Oh, and there was also the lack of certain, uh, creature comforts too.

"It was very, very wild when it came to the restroom situation," he laughed. "There was lot of rationing going on up there."

And while making it to the highest peak in Africa was certainly an accomplishment, Fiasco said he's most proud of something else both the film and the team managed to accomplish: They made thousands of people aware of the shortage of clean water available to people in the most impoverished nations on earth. And they did it together.

"There's strength in numbers. It's about mass. You can have one person, and he looks cool holding up a sign, but it's much better when you have 500 people holding up the same sign," he said. "There was actually, like, 300 people involved in this climb, and that's what it took to get everyone to the top. And that's what it's going to take to change this global water situation."

Actress says Mount Kilimanjaro 'was like this mysterious, foreboding, ominous woman.'
By James Montgomery

NEW YORK — While climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, as part of Kenna's "Summit on the Summit" mission, Jessica Biel got to know the 19,000-odd feet of rock pretty well. In fact, she's pretty sure the mountain is actually a woman.

"She was like this mysterious, foreboding, ominous woman. And she was hidden almost all day long, and just when you were unmotivated, and feeling like crap and uninspired and thinking, 'What am I doing here?' the clouds would part and she would peek out, and the beauty would strike you, and then you'd be inspired again," Biel told MTV News on the red carpet for the premiere of "Summit." "And she was literally, like, this woman who would pull this veil over her face and disappear, and then she'd show a little bit of herself, and then she'd disappear again. It was kind of this running joke, but I really felt that way. I felt like, 'I respect you. Please let me get up, please.' "

But just because Kilimanjaro was inspiring doesn't mean she also couldn't be positively dominating too. In the film — which debuts Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on MTV — Biel and her fellow climbers (a team that also featured Lupe Fiasco, Santigold, Emile Hirsch and a team of scientists, United Nations ambassadors and experienced mountain guides) were brutalized by freezing rain and snow, gashed and twisted on stones and dizzied by the rapidly thinning atmospheric conditions. But that was just the physical trauma. The real challenge, for Biel at least, was overcoming the mental aspects of scaling the peak.

"It was a combination of the mental and the psychological aspects of the mountain, of the slow-but-steady pace that you had to go up it, and that sometimes made your brain just want to explode, because you just wanted to get there so badly," she said. "And then you couldn't see anything at night, when we were doing our ascent attempt, and you start thinking that it would never end and you'd start to think, 'Why am I here? This is miserable!'

"But then you'd get this rush of inspiration of 'I'm not doing this for me. I'm doing this for something bigger than me, for people who don't have a voice, for people that need water around the world,' and then you'd power through," she continued. "Your mind started to play tricks on you. And then, with the altitude, you just felt so strange. You didn't know why you were lethargic, you didn't know why you were so tired. It was an intense experience."

And that bigger goal was to raise awareness about the global clean-water crisis, a problem much bigger than any mountain. But Biel was inspired, not just by her trip to the top of the world, but by the larger message the mission carries: that together, people can conquer even the most insurmountable of challenges.

"That's a part of all movements. One voice is something, but a group of voices can change the world. All grassroots movements started that way, and with the Internet and people following us and watching our ascent, it really feels like people were excited by what we were doing and hopefully were inspired to create challenges for themselves, whatever that may be, and for whatever cause that may be," Biel said. "To get involved with their community, or pick something around the world that they care about, that they feel they should stand up for. That was the idea behind this. Kenna wasn't going to stop, because he had this group of friends behind him, who were supporting him. And I wasn't going to stop, because I wanted to be there for Kenna, and I didn't want to take the group down. It was such a group mentality, and I don't think we could've done it without everyone being there, and 100-percent ready for the challenge."

A young man was shot on Mack Road this evening after a family fight over cash and a gun, according to police.

The man, in his early 20s, was shot three times in the groin, but his injuries are not life-threatening, said police Sgt. Norm Leong. The victim was taken to Kaiser Permanente's South Sacramento Medical Center for treatment.

About a week ago, police arrested the victim after finding him with a gun, Leong said. The man told officers it was his cousin's weapon and that he was trying to sell it for him.

Officers confiscated that gun, Leong said.

Today, the victim told police, he was confronted by his cousin and a friend, who were looking for money from selling the gun.

When he told them he did not have any money for them, one of them shot the victim, Leong said.

Officers are searching for the shooter.

Sacramento police honored two residents today for what department leaders called their "brave actions" and "exemplary commitment to their community and to public safety."

Chief Rick Braziel presented a certificate to Steven Ueltzen and Ralph Martinez during a brief ceremony at department headquarters this afternoon.

Both men were recognized for actions they took last September.

According to police, Ueltzen was inside his home on the evening of Sept. 10 when he heard a woman screaming. He went outside to find a woman who had just been robbed of her purse.

The woman described her attackers, and Ueltzen found them, police said. He chased the suspects, who eventually escaped into an apartment complex.

Ueltzen then passed the information on to responding officers, who eventually located and arrested the suspects.

Five days later, Martinez was outside of his workplace, taking a break, when he saw a police officer attempting to arrest a suspect.

With handcuffs on one hand, the suspect became combative and, while attempting to flee, struck the officer in the face, police said.

The officer was knocked to the ground. He began wrestling the suspect, but the suspect was able to get on top of the officer, according to police.

Martinez ran to the officer to help, and got the suspect in a head lock. The three men ended up in a struggle, but Martinez continued fighting until other officers arrived, police said.

Braziel said in a prepared statement that his department is "proud and honored to have citizens like (Ueltzen and Martinez) in our community."

So late last year I replaced my 9 year old SD tube television with a 120hz Samsung LED-LCD. There's one odd behavior that bothers me slightly. It only seems to happen in video games. Take for example Assassins Creed 2 on the Xbox 360, or any game where there's a character you're directly controlling in the center of the screen. When there's a lot of movement in the background like when rotating the camera around the character, the colors directly around the character become garbled and muddy. It looks like the character has an aura of muddy colors around it. I never see this sort of behavior on my computer monitor but this new television seems to do it. I'm really new to having an LED-LCD high(er) hertz television, can someone explain to me why this is happening? Does it have to do with the 120hz feature? And is there a way to fix it?
